Animated short film about the impacts of a broken water cycle and a city bound to its fate. Faced with this crux, the city strives to restore this balance with the hope of ensuring their people’s longevity as well.
The Trailer to the Future introduces the Sponge City VR artwork’s story and the urban planning concept that it’s based upon. In the exhibition experience it serves as the first contact point with the audience.

Series of multimedia artworks about a near-future city bound to the fate of it's broken water cycle. Emulating the power of sponging in nature, the city flourishes in the wake of floods and droughts.

Sponge City is an urban planning concept that protects cities from severe rainfall and flooding by applying strategies that capture and retain rainwater like a sponge. The VR artwork speculatively explores a near future scenario that shows stories and ideas that make a Sponge City possible.
The artwork takes inspiration from video game mechanics. It allows the audience to discover a micro open world scenario, where one can talk to non playable characters, interact with the environment using binoculars and activate animated in-game info screens.
